Artist Statement

ANNA DUDEK

Anna Dudek’s minimalist styled sculptures celebrate the random and transient phenomena in everyday experience. Reductive structures with no necessary meaning, her sculptural objects interact with temporal visual events and in doing so engage the viewer’s awareness and question their visual perception.

By employing a variety of materials and experimenting with reductive techniques, Dudek’s methodologies explore the developmental potential of creating sculptural forms that intentionally interact with the temporality of their environments. As such, the synchronicity of both material and immaterial elements is essential to reading her works as an expressive whole.

Dudek uses painted wood, metal and Perspex for her sculptures and their different material qualities result in varied ephemeral outcomes.  Her structured wall pieces primarily focus on the play of reflected colour shadows; the monochromatic non-wooden works appear more seamless and extend into the perceptual space of the viewer; and her dichroic works accentuate the phenomena of shifting light to engage the viewer and activate the installation space.

While Dudek’s sculptures function as valid sculptural forms her art practice continues to explore perception of phenomena as a subject for art.
